On January 5, 2025, President Biden signed into law The Social Security Fairness Act.
On January 5, 2025, President Biden signed into law The Social Security Fairness Act, which repealed the Windfall Elimination Provision ("WEP") and Government Pension Offset ("GPO") provisions of Social Security. The effective date of this law is January 1, 2024. The Social Security Administration will be required to recalculate benefits for anyone impacted during 2024.
Our undstanding is that it will take time for SSA to implement the changes in the law and process the recalculations. If you have any questions regarding the The Social Security Fairness Act, please contact your local Social Security Office, which can be found by entering a ZIP Code at the SSA Website: https://secure.ssa.gov/ICON/main.jsp.
